President Ali Announces Ambitious Plans for Guyana in 2024 A Year of Significant Initiativ

In a landmark address at the Private Sector Commission’s 31st Anniversary Gala Dinner & Awards Ceremony, President Dr. Irfaan Ali declared 2024 as a pivotal year for Guyana, promising a slew of initiatives aimed at enhancing the lives of its citizens.

 

Under the banner of inclusive development, President Ali emphasized the crucial role Guyana is set to play both regionally and on the global stage. A significant milestone is the country's upcoming tenure as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, starting January 1, 2024.

 

Guyana’s leadership will further extend as it takes on the Chairmanship of CARICOM and hosts major events like the Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo, and the CARICOM Heads of Government meeting.

 

February 2024 will witness Guyana welcoming high-level delegations from nations including Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, and Rwanda. President Ali also revealed plans for an Urban Renewal Plan backed by Qatari investment, focusing on developments along the Carifesta highway and a modern boardwalk along the seawall.

 

Highlighting local projects, President Ali mentioned the Wales Development Authority's move towards implementation and Guyana’s global positioning in sectors like energy, food, climate, and environmental services.

 

Infrastructure developments are also on the agenda, with the completion of the Diamond to Buzz Bee Dam highway and the initiation of the Buzz Bee Dam to Soesdyke Highway project. The Schoonord to Crane four-lane by-pass is set to finish by mid-next year, alongside the signing of the Corentyne River Bridge project with Suriname.

 

The President outlined extensive roadworks, including the New Demerara Bridge, the Ogle-Eccles bypass, and the new Wismar four-lane bridge, aiming to alleviate traffic concerns. Plans for the fortified superhighway bridges to Lethem and the New Amsterdam Creek Road project were also disclosed.

 

In the education and health sectors, Guyanese can anticipate new hospitals and schools, along with expanded collaborations with Western Hemisphere universities and medical institutions. The government will launch an innovation initiative and a regional food hub, focusing on upskilling young people and training 2,000 individuals for nearshoring jobs in the oil sector. 2024 will also see the start of an innovative drug development program.

 

Designating Guyana as an emerging entertainment hub, President Ali announced the construction of three new stadiums and the completion of the Anna Regina stadium. Additionally, Guyana is slated to host the Cricket World Cup and the finals of the Cricket Carnival, bolstering its position as a prime destination for sports and entertainment.

 

President Ali's vision for 2024 paints a future of progress, innovation, and global integration for Guyana, promising a transformative impact on the nation's trajectory.
